In today’s time when there is an overload of information everywhere, where access to information and knowledge has become as easy as it has ever been ever before. This access to a huge amount of knowledge has affected us both positively and negatively. The negative impact is that the desire to grab knowledge and to become good at something, to be able to solve a problem has become less as compared to what earlier generations used to have though they use to have lesser resources in order to gain information and knowledge yet the used to have an immense desire to excel. That is why we find them pioneering in different fields. As access to information has become easy and the availability of a large amount of data is at hand learning how to explore this data has also become something that should be learnt so as to get the right answers. Having said that I felt something must be written collected and compiled on the topic of the art of Googling so that people can benefit and can learn how and where to look for answers for their problems. The problem could be anything varying from a problem related to your subject, a problem related to cooking, a problem relating to building a website etc. We should know that the problem that you are trying to solve at the moment may have already been solved by someone else in the past so why invest time in resolving a problem that is already solved. The main aim and idea of teaching engineering to the general public were to allow people and to enable them to develop and build things using the knowledge and solutions that people have come up with in the past and using the same knowledge to try to resolve the problem that they may face in future. Contrary to this approach what we find in the general public is that they are more inclined to invest time in solving problems that have already been solved.
And it is for the following reason that we find people who are quite experienced in the field of engineering often saying that focus on solving “real-life problems”. In an actual sense being familiar with the engineering methodology means that you possess the skills using which you can implement the solutions of the people of the past to solve a modern-day problem. Also to understand the solutions of other engineers of the modern-day problems and to use them in your own combination of solutions. And when I say the solution of other engineers I signal to the work currently being done in the field of research.
Google has become an important tool or simply the first step that a person takes when he doesn’t know the answer. When it comes to using Google at its full potential we should understand that do we have easy access to a lot of answers and a huge amount of data still we will not always be getting one line or one-word answers straight away for our problems because mostly the problems that we are dealing with are a combination of multiple problems so the approach should be breaking our big problem into subproblems and then looking for a solution for those individuals are problems and then use in our intellect and combining those problems would result in the complete solution of our main problem.
Moreover, we should not only stick to Google for search engine I personally also prefer duckduckgo. When it comes to looking for a result we should stick to relevant keywords that are related to our query and also we should try to explore more than one search page in order to have a diverse search. Using Google images is also a good way to have a rough idea about the query that we are looking for. When it comes to tutorials videos are personally my first preference as there are easier than reading blogs, Yet sometimes written content is much better and less time consuming than a video though it may seem that it may consume more time but in reality, it doesn’t.
